“Jack of all trades, master of none.” Well, we are lucky to have found the “Jackie” of all trades BUT plot twist – she’s mastered them all. Her name is Alyssa Campbell, also known as, @Alyssamakessomething on Insta. If you already follow her, then we know you agree with us. And if you don’t follow her, you should start, like yesterday.
Let us take you back to our first meeting with Alyssa, when we realized she was a teacher we couldn’t live without. We always go into meetings with intention and set goals for what we want to accomplish, but this one little meeting with Alyssa started this exciting & inspiring momentum that was not expected. We found Alyssa through Instagram, so we knew she did a lot of wood burning (sorry for the spoiler, if you don’t follow her yet) and we thought that could be a really fun and unique class that our Orlando community would enjoy.
Our goal for the meeting was to have Alyssa commit to teaching a wood burning class. We got good vibes immediately, so we dove right into telling her our hopes and dreams for Enlighten Us. She was just as excited as we were about all the possible classes that our partnership could bring to the community. We collaborated on what we thought would be intriguing to Orlando (besides her wood burning class) and while we were throwing out ideas, we specifically brought up the idea of a charcuterie class…Well, it turns out Alyssa went to culinary school and she not only agreed to teach both classes but she agreed to combine them! THAT WAS THE MOMENT WE KNEW WE COULDN’T LIVE WITHOUT HER. In that moment, our most popular class to date was created DIY Cutting Board & Crafting the Perfect Charcuterie.
After 2 sold out classes and 1 private class, our feelings haven’t changed a bit. Every time she teaches our students are captivated by her charisma and her badass chessboard display #ALYSSAMAKESCHEESEBOARDS. One of the best parts about her class is that she gets all the ingredients at local stores (shout out to Orlando Meats for sponsoring this class!!), so everything she uses is available for our students to buy themselves and recreate the board at home! Yes, this class is just as good as it sounds, so needless to say, it sells out fast.
If you’re left wondering how the heck Alyssa started on her wood burning journey, you’re not alone. The story goes something like this… after she had her first son, she left her job to be a full time stay at home mom. While feeling lucky to be at home with her son, she also felt like she lost a little bit of her creative side and committed to making one new thing a day (whether it was a craft or food) for 365 days. Turns out, wood burning was her favorite and she started selling her products on Etsy! Now, like we said before, she’s a master of all trades and we like to think it’s because she challenged herself to go outside of her comfort zone and try 365 new things! She can do anything from making ice cream to hand lettering to crafting a beautiful (and delicious) cheeseboard and everything in-between. So the next time you’re feeling like you’re in a creative slump, remember Alyssa’s story and push yourself to try something new. You never know what you could make that could turn into a business!
